June 13, Dubai UAE : Dubai first and only E-Waste Processing Facility Enviroserve, is proud to
support the “Samsung Recycling program” in UAE. Samsung Gulf Electronics announced the
launch of a new initiative geared towards promoting sustainability and providing customers
with an opportunity to safeguard the environment. In collaboration with Enviroserve,
Samsung is now collecting mobile phones from any brand across the UAE and assuming
responsibility for the recycling process as part of the “Samsung Recycling Program.

Lyes Yahiaoui, CEO, Enviroserve, added : “With a record number of electronic devices
reaching their end-of-life each year, it is inspiring to see Samsung taking a leadership role in
the Middle East to meet the challenge. Devices collected through Samsung’s program will be
processed at Enviroserve’s state-of-the-art electronic waste processing plant, right here in
Dubai Industrial City. Our granulation process ensures maximum recovery of re-usable
materials such as aluminium, copper, iron, plastic, and even precious metals, including gold,
silver, platinum, and palladium. We encourage everybody to visit a Samsung store and place
their handheld devices in the recycling bins.

In line with its long-standing traditions of making valuable community transformation
contributions and supporting environmental protection, Samsung is the first company to be
undertaking such an activity alongside Enviroserve. To participate, customers are required
to remove data from their devices, visit a designated Samsung Recycling Program service
location, and fill up a recycling form. When customers have read the terms and conditions,
they are then required to place devices inside the collection box and their gift voucher
reward be will sent to them via mail.In total, there are 12 authorized service centers across
the UAE, with six in Dubai, three in Abu Dhabi, two in Sharjah, and one in Ras Al Khaimah.
Here, customers can carry out the above process, before Enviroserve handles the recycling
and provides a registered green certificate for the recycled device.

It is a commonly-known fact that refrigeration equipment runs on gases such as Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or Hydro-Chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) – both of which are responsible in the depletion of the stratospheric Ozone layer of the earth and are a major cause of global climatic change. Many households, corporate setups continue using the same HVAC equipment that run on refrigerant gas for a longer period of time than usual. Most of these include Icemakers, Chillers, Window AC, Unit AC, Dehumidifiers, Drinking Water Coolers, Vending Machines, Medical Refrigeration Equipment, Cold Storage, Gas Furnaces, Aerosol Spray Cans, Chiller Automobiles, Freezers, and PTACs. Over the course of time, gas that is filled in these appliances and equipment, is contaminated with oil and moisture that eventually decreases its operational efficiency. People often confuse reclaimed refrigerants with recycled refrigerants. They might sound similar, but their processes are entirely different. Recycling essentially means that the recovered refrigerant has undergone a basic cleaning process and there is no quality assurance in terms of specification or purity. This recycled refrigerant might be potentially harmful if all the contaminants are not fully removed through the recycling process and when used again, they might impact the system’s efficiency. A reclaimed refrigerant is usually re-processed through a more intense process that analyzes the contaminants, filters, and removes them thoroughly, returning the refrigerant to its virgin form.
